There's so much i could talk about relating to videogames and childhood. I played the game,and even if the plot was real thick for a kid of my age,it felt simple thanks to it's "anime" style. My dad took an interest too in the game since my cousin told some of the plot (my dad enjoyed a lot being in the army while young). He had never seen so much in a game before. He was talking to my dad about the themes of the game. i still remember that he played the game already. My cousin,the same of that house i talked about gave it to me. The turning point,i guess,was receiving metal gear solid on christmas 1999. It's so silly that we do not talk anymore after all this nice memories. He did this up to tiberian sun in later years,when i was around ten years old. being a huge strategy fan he played command & conquer every night while i fell asleep.

Silly,yes,but that thing had a powerful impact on my imagination. I still remember him rushing to me (guess i was very curious about games,so he enjoyed telling me his progress) one day telling me "hey,you can't imagine what i discovered yesterday! if you play a song on the ocarina you can make scarecrows dance!"
I was seven and i was blown away by all the small details he told to me. There was a kid who was doing last year at elementary while i was smaller that talked to me about ocarina of time around 1998. I still did some gathering of kids at school talking about games. General opinion was more "meh/they are harmful". Here in italy not all the kids had a blast with games. I remember playing DKC for the first time on the SNES there, the kids of the complex would always gather around the same place and talk about strategies and tips on how to beat the game, not just DKC but on any game, it was like the internet only better. I lived in an apartment complex in a great neighborhood, where there's lots of children playing around, people would walk around and greet one another, and it felt like everyone knew each other and they got along. I remember growing up in the early 90's and it was a beautiful time to live.

I wanted to share this memory with you,and it's funny thinking that while i know perfectly what i'm talking about,you just can imagine and wonder how that place was. it was like losing a part of my childhood. And all the upper floor where i used to play,well,they were restructuring the place.
I always miss the feeling of dwelling in their living room furniture,stumbling on a box containing games and consoles. Since they are 10 years older than me they had all kind of consoles from the 80's and 90's. They lived in this big house on a hill near perugia (center of italy). I've played the hell out of DKC when i was around 5-6 years old at my cousin's house. Funny how we share feelings with people living all over the world eh?
